Elevated Composite Deck — Flaxton, Sunshine Coast Hinterland
When a Flaxton client came to us wanting an elevated deck that could handle the hinterland climate without the ongoing maintenance of traditional hardwood boards, we knew exactly where to go: NewTechWood Australia composite decking in Blackbutt, paired with a solid hardwood timber structural subframe.
The result is a deck built to perform and built to last.
The Build
We framed the entire structure in hardwood timber — posts, bearers, and joists treated to H4 specification — which gives the deck its solid-underfoot feel and the flexibility needed to work with an elevated, sloping hinterland site.
The NewTechWood Blackbutt boards were laid straight, letting the warm mid-brown tone and natural grain do the talking. Co-extruded construction means the boards resist moisture, mould, and UV without cracking, splintering, or needing a drop of oil — ever. The warm Blackbutt tone sits naturally against the surrounding bush and ties in beautifully with the timber framing.
To finish the build, we installed a hardwood timber top rail with stainless steel wire balustrade infill — compliant with NCC requirements and virtually invisible from the deck. The views over the Flaxton tree canopy stay completely uninterrupted.
The Outcome
Low-maintenance. Structurally sound. A deck that genuinely makes the most of an exceptional site.
