The problem with the real thing, especially this close to the water, is what it costs you in upkeep — regular oiling, sanding back silvered patches, and keeping on top of a hardwood deck that's copping salt air and direct sun every single day.

We had to work with tidal movement and site access on a tighter timetable than your standard backyard deck, and get the subframe engineered to handle the exposure — proper joist spacing, treated timber, and enough fall built in that water sheds off the boards rather than sitting and pooling. Composite decking is a genuinely good match for a site like this, because unlike hardwood, it won't cup, warp or rot from the constant moisture exposure a waterfront position throws at it.

The colour and grain run consistently across every board too, which matters a lot on a deck this size and this visible — there's nowhere for an inconsistent batch to hide when the whole thing's on show right on the water.
